My New Favourites: Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick

best long wearing lipsticks

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet liquid lipsticks are some of my favourite high street lipsticks so when I received my first Influenster Box full of the new lipstick version I was THRILLED. Seriously, it was like Christmas for me. BourjoisRouge Velvet The Lipstick* comes in 12 shades, all matte and I’m pretty sure there are shades for everyone in the range. They start from nudes, through pinks and oranges, to deeper reds. I love the shades available.

best matte lipsticks

I really love these lipsticks for several reasons and high up my list is that they actually feel innovative. The bullet is shaped like a teardrop which allows for precise application. I did find this tricky initially as I don’t have any other lipsticks shaped like this but once you’re used to it it works remarkably well, especially around the cupid bow. The actual formula of these lipsticks also feels very high tech. When first applied they feel balm like and slightly cooling to the lips, not what I expected at all. This effect is due to hydrating waxes with light oils in the ingredients. They then dry down quite quickly to an opaque matte finish, it’s magic! One application gives great pigmentation but two layers really seals it. The wear time is absolutely amazing on these, I’ve been wearing Brique-à-brac pretty much all the time and it lasts practically all day.

The 12 colours are described (rightly, I think as):

Hey Nude ! - A real beige nude like a concealer for lips.
Flaming’rose - A touch of pale nude to embellish the natural colour of lips.
Hyppink chic - Deep pink to illuminate the complexion
Hip Hip Pink - Pinky red for a trendy Marsala shade, easy to wear in any occasion.
Brique-à-brac - A reddish light brown that will match all skin tones
Abrico’dabra ! - A sweet & fresh peach nuance to brighten your look.
Joli carmin’ois - A pepsy red with an orange undertone, so luminous for a bright smile.
Rubi’s cute - An intense red for a bright timeless look.
Fuchsia botté - A beautiful fuchsia with a hint of blue and a lot of peps!
Magni-fig - This deep and intense purple, very saturated, reveals a trendy touch.
Berry formidable  - A deep burgundy colour for a sophisticated look.
Brunette - A dark brown with a red undertone, a true head-turner.”

I think I actually prefer the bullet version to the liquid lipstick. I find application to be much more even and precise with the new lipstick style. Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick is also less drying on the lips than the liquid version as well as having more longevity. I would say though that the packaging can be a little tricky initially as it’s quite tight (I guess to keep them from drying out) so do be careful that you’ve fully retracted the bullet back into the case. Oh also the packaging is similar to the originals in that you can see exactly what colour the shades are inside which is so handy. So, I absolutely love these. If I hadn’t been sent them for review I would most definitely be purchasing them anyway. I love everything about them: the formula, the shade range and the longevity. If you love a matte you have to try Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick.

Have you tried them?
