Ren was my first foray into
premium skincare a good few years ago now. I bought a lip balm in Selfridges
and it was one of my most favourite lip balms, I’m broken hearted that they no
longer make it. After that I’ve used their cleansers, moisturisers and masks.
My favourite masks are definitely their Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal
Mask (I reviewed it here) and the Flash Rinse1 Minute Facial which is the perfect instant pick-me-up. So when I heard about
the new Ren Perfect Canvas* I was very interested
in trying it out.
What is Ren Perfect Canvas?
It’s a lightweight serum that you apply after
your moisturiser and before makeup
application (or just to help even out skin if you don’t wear makeup). It’s full
of active ingredients like Alpha-Glucans
that help to rebalance the skin through the promotion of friendly bacteria, Agave
Extract mattifies and smooths the skin
like a primer but without the use of silicone (which I love, I am not a fan of
silicone primers), and Pro-Biotic Extract which acts like a catalyst to help boost the
production of proteins and enzymes to improve the skin’s natural barrier while
generally improving the skin’s overall structure. So essentially it’s a
multipurpose treatment serum and primer in one and I actually love it.
From the first use the skin instantly appears fresher and
smoother which is a definite bonus for me first thing on the morning. The
light, clear serum is dispensed from a rather sleek looking glass bottle by
using a dropper. I find 2-3 drops is enough to easily cover all the face. The
serum sinks in fast leaving the skin mattified, smooth and soft. The serum has
a gentle pleasing scent (from natural derivatives) and I haven’t experienced
any kind of irritation or upset on my sensitive skin. Oh and this might be a
coincidence (if this changes I’ll update here) but I’ve been having terrible
hormonal breakouts around my jaw but since using this I’ve not had any. Ren do say that Perfect Canvas helps boost the
skin’s natural immune system which results in less breakouts. As I say this may
be a coincidence but still worth mentioning, I think.
There are lots of reasons I like this serum/primer hybrid
but I think the fact that it genuinely does what it says is actually
impressive. It manages to fill and smooth the skin without the use of silicone
so if you are particularly sensitive to silicone or find it just doesn’t do the
job this is definitely for you. Ren Perfect Canvas controls oil really well
throughout the day, my oily t-zone barely needs touching up when I use this. It
also makes my foundation just look better and last longer too. Also, I’ve
definitely seen an improvement in my skin in the 3 and a bit weeks I’ve been
using it.
Now, while this isn’t cheap (it’s currently £50) you are
getting an incredible primer (free of silicone) and a serum in one. Other
high-end primers are around £30 mark and that’s without the skin-loving
benefits. The serum also goes a long way; I reckon I’ll get a good few months
out of this bottle from everyday use. I love a high performing, multitasking
product and Ren Perfect Canvas is a very welcome addition to my minimal
skincare and makeup routine.

Very interesting. I always use a serum but recently have been into primers too as I want my base to look polished. This one sounds like a dream, just included it in my wish list.

DeleteOoooh this sounds right up my street. I've got a lot of texture (and increasing fine lines) on my face, it sounds like this could become an everyday staple for me!
