Like I said in my previous post one of the joys of blogging is getting to try out new skincare. I can’t think of any other skincare brands that are doing what EKIA are doing (but do correct me if I’m wrong!). EKIA, an innovative skincare brand from France, spent 2 years studying mature skin. The clinical research was undertook at a French University hospital with 150 women taking part. What EKIA discovered and has then developed is that older skin can be categorised by three types rather than a very broad mature skin umbrella. So you will find “Well Preserved, Weakened and Damaged” skin types, which are further categorised as dry, normal etc. All are aimed at the over 50s. Then EKIA developed another range for the 35-50 age bracket. Carine Mudry, creator of EKIA, said: “We designed Ekia to give women looking for organic skincare products an alternative to the heavy textured, poorly fragranced and unproven formulations dominating the market at the time.”
One of the key active ingredients in EKIA’s range is Dragon’s Blood Sap which comes from the Croton Lechleri Tree. Apparently it’s been used by Amazonian tribes for centuries thanks to its healing properties. It’s also considered to be one of the most powerful antioxidants and Lady Gaga likes it too. High praise indeed. But is it any good? Well, I’ve been using three products from EKIA’s range for several weeks now so let me share my thoughts with you.
First is the EKIA Organic Lait Velouté (Velvet Cleansing Milk)* (not photographed). This cleansing milk is perfect for dry and sensitive skins and I especially like it as my morning cleanser. The creamy consistency is similar to Liz Earle’s Cleanse and Polish but unfortunately this wasn’t enough for my evening clean. I stuck with my Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Oil but EKIA do have a cleansing oil so this might work better as an evening cleanser. EKIA Organic Lait Velouté left my skin feeling soft and moisturised, a great morning cleansing especially for the cold months.
EKIA’s firming serum* promises to have immediate plumping effects and after 3 months of use skin will be denser, taut and energised. I haven’t been using it as long as three months but I definitely have noticed a firmness in my skin after use and my skin is smoother. It does have an unusual smell which I guess is due to the biological element of the ingredients. It’s not a horrible smell just not one I’m particularly used to, also it doesn’t stay around once applied. Talking about application, a pump of this covers the face nicely, it sinks in immediately leaving no tackiness. This really is a lovely serum and there’s also a Radiance Face Serum available which I think I’ll give a go. You can buy the serums from Holland and Barrett.
Then for my main moisturiser, both day and night, I’ve been using EKIA Créme Initiale- Corrective Anti-ageing Skincare cream*. What I like about this cream is that it’s a brilliant all-rounder, it treats all the signs of ageing such as fatigue, discolourations and wrinkles so reduces the amount of faffing about with lots of different products. Initially, I wasn’t all that impressed with this cream. I mean, it did all the things a good quality product is supposed to such as sink in nicely, leave my skin soft and supple but I just wasn’t getting anything special from this cream. Then I think around the 2 week mark I started to really love this cream. My skin was noticeably brighter and looked more even, and just generally better. If you want to try it out yourself you can purchase from Holland and Barrett.
If you’re looking for a new anti-ageing cream that is organic but full of active ingredients such as Dragon’s Blood Sap then I do highly recommend giving EKIA a try. I’ve enjoyed using the products and have definitely noticed a difference in how my skin both looks and feels. You can find out more about the ranges at the EKIA site here.
