La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur

La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur

La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur Instant Oil-Absorbing Coverage Cream Mousse is a new and definitely interesting base product. La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur is a new skincare hybrid that claims to blur the appearance of blemishes, fine lines and pores while absorbing oil throughout the day. It is specifically aimed at more oily complexions so those with dry skin may want to stay away from this.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur contains some cutting-edge ingredients. Aircilium, which is used by NASA, is an oil absorbing ingredient that helps to keep the finish of the product velvet-matte. It also gives the skin a smoother looking appearance. La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur is full of dimethicone (silicone) so this might play a huge part in its skin smoothing abilities, too.

La Roche-Posay BB Blur also contains Perlite, a silica which helps to absorb excess oil to retain a matte finish throughout the day. Despite both these mattifying ingredients I didn’t find it a flat base. It looked natural and healthy rather than death mask as some BBs can look.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur

La Roche-Posay BB Blur has a really unusual texture. It’s an air-whipped mousse which is really easy to apply and blend out. It’s one of the easiest bases I’ve used. It goes on smoothly and evenly to give a light to medium coverage. I’d say this is only buidable to medium coverage, and on the sheerer side of medium. It’ll do a good job at evening out skin tone but you’ll need concealer for blemishes and under-eyes (I do at least). Anyway, back to the texture. It feels almost wet on application and very silicone-y which gives it a huge amount of slip, this is what makes it so easy to apply. On my combination skin it took a good few minutes to set then I don’t feel it but it is very strange on application. Here’s the ingredients:

As you can see the main ingredients is dimethicone so if you’re sensitive to silicones I’d be wary of this product and you really can feel it in this product. I’m not a huge fan of the slippery velvet feel but as I said it does disappear after around 10 minutes thankfully. Have you heard of undecane? I hadn’t so I dutifully looked it up apparently it’s a mild sex attractant for various types of moths and cockroaches. So maybe best not to wear it near those animals either. In cosmetics it's a skin conditioning emollient.

What I like about La Roche-Posay BB Blur is that it genuinely does a brilliant job at blurring pores and fine lines. I’m not convinced on blemishes though. It smooths the skin out and mattifies. It also lasts well throughout the day. I definitely felt it helped control the oiliness on my t-zone. I think I’ll probably return to this in the Summer months when I can get away with the colour more plus it provides a decent level of sun protection.

What I don’t like about it is the very limited colour range. I have the lightest shade in fair/light and as you can see from the swatch it’s still pretty dark for very pale skins. It does have colour-adapting technology but not enough for it to adapt to my Winter skin tone. Perhaps in the Summer the colour would work better for me but definitely not now. Conversely if you’ve dark skin you won’t get a decent match either. This is pretty typical of BB creams and it really lets them down. I’m still undecided whether I like how it feels on my skin initially, you’re either going to love it or hate it I think.

If you’re looking for a light to medium coverage base that’s easy to apply and will help control shine, as well as smoothing out the skin, this is a good choice for you. Just be aware of the very narrow colour range.

Have you tried La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur Instant Oil-Absorbing Coverage Cream Mousse?

  1. Never let it be said you don't post honest reviews babe!

Looking forward to the eventual X-Files episode where cockroaches EAT THE FACE of somebody wearing this. Sounds like a really interesting product though.
