Scandinavian Home Inspiration

how to make you home look Scandinavian

This might seem a little bit different from my usual posts but I actually spend a good deal of my time scrolling beautiful interior design accounts on Instagram. My home on the other hand is the complete antithesis. It’s best described as “lived-in”, scribbles adorn all the surfaces my toddler can reach while everything else is covered in toys. I do dream of a tranquil space inspired by Scandinavian minimalism though. All exposed wood, whites and greys with beautifully designed ornaments and the odd succulent or cactus. I do have the plants, so I’m some of the way there, kind of (but not really at all *sobs*). So in the spirit of dreaming of the perfect living space I’ve created the above mood board.

Now that we’re moving into Autumn/Winter I think it’s also really nice to make your living-room (or indeed any room in which you spend a lot of time) calming and cosy. I buy quite a few things from Ikea (obviously, don’t we all?) I’ve had my eye on the mirror included above for quite a while or I quite like this mirror from John Lewis. Rather handily John Lewis has categorised Scandi products making it even easier to recreate this style at home. For more Scandi inspiration I recommend The Finnish Design Shop, so nice.

As well as their affordable clothes I’m also a big fan of H&M’s homeware selection. I have these candle holders and this small tea light holder which you can see in some of my blog photos and InstagramLighting is also important in the overall look of the room. I love this geometric pendant light and this white and copper pendant light (both from Not on the High Street).

As I said I do have plants which I mainly purchase from from Ikea. Shops such as Geo-fleur have the most beautiful selection of plants and pots. I think I’m going to buy one of these gorgeous cacti in concrete and gold pot and I *love* this brass plant mister. I'm going to start adding air plants to my collection of cacti and succulents. Etsy have the most beautiful selection of air plants in terrariums. Urban Outfitters also have a nice selection of plants and terrariums, as well as lovely homeware.

Lastly, and probably the most important in a livingroom, is a comfortable sofa. We have a huge sofa from Ikea but I also love the Natuzzi Surround sofa shown above and the Ercol Evergreen chair (also shown above) but there’s a huge variety at Fishpools if those don’t take your fancy.

Are you preparing your home for the autumn/winter months?

  1. My dream home would be Scandinavian minimalism throughout. It's just so tranquil and calming. I've been gradually changing my home towards this kind of style - I wish I could go back to when I was moving in and start it from scratch then!

The lights in my living room are v similar to the geometric pendant one, though mine are black and slightly different shapes. A couple of my fave pieces.

    1. I love the style, did you check out the links to Instagram? you'll *love* those accounts, I'm basically going to steal their style (or try to at least) x

    2. I did, the homes are sickening. In the good way. I adore the turquoise lockers on @marijke1212 - I would never think of having something like that but they look so cool!

    3. This is gorgeous! I'm reaching for my 25 beautiful homes mag right now. Love the colour pallet, if only my house could look like this. If only! Great post

    4. thank you! I'd love my home to look like this too, I keep drooling over the scandi inspired Instagram accounts <3
