Boujois Souffle de Velvet in Plum Plum Pidou

Boujois Souffle de Velvet in Plum Plum Pidou

I love the original Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet. The finish is brilliant, a velvet matte that lasts well throughout the day. The pigmentation and the colour selection is great too.  Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet performs like a much higher end lip product so I’m always excited to try out a new release from the range.

Then Bourjois released the Aqua version, a high shine lacquer that’s the complete opposite to Rouge Velvet. I’m not a fan, the colour selection and finish just doesn’t appeal to me. But despite this I was interested in the latest offering.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet is the perfect name for this light liquid lipstick. The texture is souffle like, it feels like a lighter, aerated version of the Velvets. It still retains that feeling of slip before it sets. Once Souffle sets it gives a light wash of colour.

I have Plum Plum Pidou 07. This is a really pretty mid-toned pinky-red. When I first swatched this in Boots I thought it had a good level of pigmentation. Swatching these is seriously deceptive. They swatch pretty much the same as the Velvets but on the lips it’s a completely different ballgame. Bourjois describe them as sheer and matte which seems completely incompatible. Matte, for me, usually means opacity. So Souffle is really confusing. It feels like it should be buidable but it’s not, the colour always stays sheer... and matte.

There’s 8 colours available but due to their light pigmentation there’s not a huge amount of difference between them. They’re all kind of pink. Plum Plum Pidou gives a nice touch of colour to the lips but I think the same results could be achieved by thinning out the original Velvet on the lips.

If you like a little bit of colour Bourjois Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet is worth checking out. I do like the one I have. It’s easy to wear and brightens up the complexion when you don’t want to wear a full-on lipstick (which I basically always want to do). I just don’t think the finish is for me. I prefer my lip products to be highly pigmented and opaque. If you also like that kind of finish maybe my review of the newish Revlon Ultra HD Matte lipcolor will be better suited to you.

Have you tried the new Bourjois Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet? Am I missing how good these are?
