Products for Dehydrated Skin to Suit all Price Ranges

Products for Dehydrated Skin to Suit all Price Ranges

Firstly, let me briefly explain what dehydrated skin is: dehydrated skin is *not* the same as dry skin. Any skin type, even oily, can become dehydrated. Numerous factors can contribute to dehydrated skin such as what you eat, not enough water, medication and general lifestyle choices can all have an effect on how our skin reacts. And now we’re moving into colder weather the mix of harsh air and central heating can also deplete the skin’s moisture and cause dehydration.

There’s a mix of symptoms associated with dehydrated skin. This article on Paula’s Choice describes dehydrated skin as producing “a normal or even excessive amount of oil, yet feels tight or dry, and can even be flaky. If you can describe your skin as dry underneath, oily on top, it can be a sign of dehydrated skin. This skin concern also tends to come and go depending on the climate and season, or even based on your hobbies, such as swimming or using a sauna frequently.” Other symptoms of dehydrated skin are dullness, sallowness, tautness and congestion. When my skin is dehydrated I get little bumps and blackheads, and it just looks older. Medication is the main culprit for my dehydrated skin and unfortunately it’s something I have to take longterm. Of course while what you eat and drink will enormously help a little topical help is also good. There’s lots of different skin care products out there to treat dehydrated skin. I have four different products for dehydrated skin for you to try which should (hopefully) suit all price ranges.

best treatments for dehydrated skin

Not surprisingly Hylamide is one of my first choices (I’ve previously blogged about their wonderful skin care products such as the Hylamide Photography Foundation* here and the Glow Radiance Booster* here ) I was actually sent Hylamide Low Molecular HA Rehydration Serum but the one featured here (and also in my previous March Favourites here) is a bottle that I’d bought (I’m very pleased to have a back up though!). One of the main products you want when trying to rehydrated your skin is Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the body and it helps it to retain moisture. When Hyaluronic acid is applied topically it soaks up all the hydration to make the skin look fuller, plumper and more youthful. According to Paula’s Choice “one gram (.03 ounces) of hyaluronic acid is able to hold up to six liters (1 quart) of water!”.  So yeah Hyaluronic Acid is an amazing ingredient to tackle dehydrated skin. Hylamide Low Molecular HA Rehydration Serum always leaves my skin is a much better condition, it’s like a big glass of water for my thirsty skin.

Next is the wonderfully soothing Madara SOS Hydra-Repair Intensive Serum* (previously reviewed here). This is a great all rounder and has a high level of Hyaluronic acid and a whole host of other ingredients to help restore moisture to the skin’s barrier. This is particularly good for oily skins as it sinks in super fast and leaves absolutely no residue, in fact it’s slightly mattifying. It’s also organic and vegan friendly.

the best products for dehydrated skin

I did an overview of the amazing No7 Lift & Luminate Triple Action Serum here. Lift & Luminate is one of the best all-round serums I’ve ever tried and that’s including the incredibly popular Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. Not only does No7 Lift & Luminate Triple Action Serum target dehydration but it will also even out skin tone and reduce the look of wrinkles. I have some scarring on my jaw line from previous hormonal acne scars and some of the scarring is almost gone. I’ve never had such a noticeable difference with anything else I’ve tried. It plumps the skin up nicely and tackles all symptoms of dehydrated skin. A forever repurchase for me.

budget products for dehydrated skin

Superdrug’s Simply Pure Hydrating Serum is the budget buy of the bunch but it’s just as good as anything I’ve included here and definitely worth picking up to try at only £2.69 (!?). Superdrug’s Simply Pure Hydrating Serum contains Hyaluronic Acid and ceramides to promote hydration and smoother skin on first application. This white, slightly creamy serum sinks in quickly to leave skin super soft and hydrated. An absolute bargain and worth trying if you have particularly sensitive skin too. But everything I’ve mentioned has never irritated my skin, even the No7 Serum which is perfumed.

Have you tried any of these? What’s your favourites for dehydrated skin?

  5. I'm a massive fan of the Hylamide range, I've liked everything I've tried so far. The Pure serum is ridiculously cheap and so good. Think I've had it twice now.
I still need to try the No7 one as I'm hearing lots of positive opinions.
