Boots No7 Lift & Luminate Triple Action Serum Review

Boots No7 Lift & Luminate Triple Action Serum Review

With all the advertising and proven claims curiosity got the better of me and I bought the new No7 Lift & Luminate Triple Action Serum. I’ve only been using this for roughly a week so these are my very early initial thoughts, I’ll report back in 7-8 weeks with fuller thoughts and results. But here’s a wee overview of the serum.

No7 Lift & Luminate contains three active ingredients, and more importantly, these three ingredients have actually been proven to work. Serums are much more powerful than moisturisers and target specific concerns. Firstly is Matrixyl 3000 Plus which was first used in Boots original Protect & Perfect. Matrixyl works by helping the skin increase the production of collagen. Collagen gives the skin ‘bounce’ and youthfulness but unfortunately collagen naturally breaks down during the skin’s ageing process which gives that saggy, sallow look.

Secondly, the popular Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is used in lots of anti-ageing skincare as it helps the skin retain extra moisture and therefore increases the skin’s firmness. Again, this adds to the youthful look. Hyaluronic acid helps to smooth out fine lines too.

The third active ingredient in No7 Lift & Luminate Serum is Hibiscus extract. Like Matrixyl, Hibiscus extract aids in the production of collagen which further adds smoothness and plumpness to the skin. As well as these three ingredients all countering the look of the ageing process Boots have included a pigmentation complex full of Vitamin C to help reduce discolouration while promoting a more even skin tone. So to sum up the new No7 Lift & Luminate Triple Action Serum is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, make skin feel firmer and smoother, and even out skin tone. I think you can see why I was interested in trying it! I wasn’t that impressed on first application though, namely because it has a significant amount of fragrance in it. And the fragrance (Parfum) is quite high up the list:

Aqua (Water), Dimethicone, Butylene glycol, Glycerin, Aluminum starch octenylsuccinate, Isononyl isononanoate, Gluconolactone, Dimethicone crosspolymer, Ammonium acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP copolymer, 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid, Phenoxyethanol, Polysorbate 20, Potassium hydroxide, Xanthan gum, Pentylene glycol, Dimethiconol, Hibiscus abelmoschus extract, Parfum (Fragrance), Sodium hyaluronate, Retinyl palmitate, Propylene glycol, Tocopheryl acetate, Sorbitan laurate, Phyllanthus emblica fruit extract, Hydrolyzed rice protein, Methylparaben, Carbomer, Ethylparaben, Tetrasodium EDTA, T-butyl alcohol, Sophora angustifolia root extract, Hydroxypropyl cyclodextrin, Panax ginseng root extract, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Dipropylene glycol, Acetyl dipeptide-1 cetyl ester, Morus alba leaf extract, Sodium benzoate, Tocopherol, Palmitoyl tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7

Also, dimethicone is second highest. I know the word Hypoallergenic doesn’t actually mean anything but it implies that it’s safe for sensitive skin to use. Now fragrance and silicones generally irritate many sensitive skins so I was wary but I still wanted to try it. I haven’t changed anything else in my skincare routine ( I might do a blog post about this because I’ve have a huge change in how I feel about Clinique’s Take the Day Off Cleansing Oil) and I did get a couple of bumps coming up but they didn’t turn into anything so make of that what you will but I don’t usually get spots, besides the odd hormonal ones.

Despite my initial reservations No7 Lift & Luminate Serum applies really nicely, sinks in fully and doesn’t leave any horrible residue just soft, smooth skin. Thankfully the fragrance dissipates too, I really don’t understand the need for it unless the actual product smells horrible? I dunno.

So a week in and I am starting to see some results. My skin is looking plumper, like I’ve been eating well and getting rest (I was going to put like I’ve been having good sex but both my mum and mother-in-law read this hello!). I think it’d suit all skin types, it hasn’t irritated any oily patches I have and it’s helped dry areas too. So far so good, but I’ll let you know after the 8 weeks.

Have you tried No7 Lift & Luminate or the original Protect and Perfect?
